Breakfast was fantastic, with both continental and full English options. The welcome was friendly, everything was very clean, and the bed was comfortable. It's about a 10-minute walk to the beautiful city centre. We'd definitely stay again.

They were happy to serve breakfast earlier for us, and the cooked English breakfast was nice. We found the rooms comfortable and clean, and got a friendly greeting when we arrived. There's free parking and it's a 20-minute walk to the town centre. Very pleased, couldn't have asked for more.

We had a clean, cosy room for the weekend, with comfortable beds. There was enough milk for two people to make two hot drinks, and they replenished it the next day. It's a 15-minute walk to the town centre. When we return to York in November, this will definitely be on the list.

This review is only about Room 7. It's shabby and shocking, and shouldn't be let as a room. Wallpaper is coming off, ten electrical plugs run from one double socket, and a toaster sits directly under a place curtain. The door is unbelievably small. The hotel does warn guests about the door, so there's nothing they can do about that. But the electrical setup is dangerously bad, and York Council told us they intend to investigate and visit the site based on the photos we supplied. The hotel has also ignored every attempt by us or LateRooms to get a reply and seek a refund for the night we didn't stay.

Getting into town is easy, with a bus stop right outside and a fare of £1.20 to the city centre. The host was friendly and the room was nice, though it can get a bit noisy when people upstairs stomp around. The lodge is in an old house, and you'll likely have the same issue in all the surrounding lodges.
