Staycity Aparthotels York - Barbican Center

We booked two nights for my sister’s 21st birthday, and the weekend was stress free and really enjoyable. Check in was easy, the room was immaculate, nicely set up, modern, and had everything we needed. The staff were super friendly and helpful. I’d definitely stay again and recommend it to anyone. Thanks so much!

The apartment was good value and well equipped. There’s a reasonably priced coffee shop and bar at reception, and the Co-op 7-11 store downstairs was handy for food and drinks. I was there for 8 nights. Because of staff shortages, cleaning had been disrupted, so my room wasn’t cleaned and the towels and bedding weren’t changed. I was on my own, so it wasn’t a problem for me, but it could have bothered a couple who needed fresh towels.

This hotel is central to pretty much everything in York, and the room was clean with a very modern look. It had all sorts of useful things: an iron and ironing board, dishwasher, cooker, fridge freezer, TV, microwave, and washing machine. The pull out bed was comfortable and a good size unless you’re tall. There was extra bedding for it, including extra towels. The bathroom was nice, with a big walk-in shower that could fit two and was disabled friendly, with only a small lip to get over. We only stayed one night, so the fridge freezer being very noisy wasn’t a big issue. It sounded like a gorilla wrestling a bag of spanners, but I’m sure the staff would have tried to sort it out if we’d stayed longer. One other thing: the standby light on the TV is bright if you’re sleeping on the pull out sofas. Easily fixable by turning it off at the wall or covering the light with black tape. I’d definitely recommend staying here.

The location was the only thing I liked. The hotel had a greasy smell throughout, the security doors weren’t working, and there was no lift. Our room was small, the bathroom looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in some time, and the kitchen and sink area were dirty. The duvet didn’t fit its cover, and the window looked out onto the staircase to the Barbican. Reception staff never asked about our stay. They just checked us out, and that was it. It felt like a cheaply run place. Don’t bother booking, you’ll only be disappointed.
