The food was wonderful, all great quality, and the gardens are beautiful too. Staff are welcoming, and the accommodation is smart, very clean and comfortable, with a lovely shower. It's a great location, not far from the railway station and an easy walk to the city centre and local attractions. I've stayed before with my cousins for the races, and this time my husband was just as impressed. Bar Convent would be my go-to when staying in York, and I wouldn't hesitate to return.

There's a lot to explore here, including the shop, cafe, chapel and museum, and the place has magnificent history. It's close to the city centre and train centre, so it's a good base for seeing the area. The room was clean and well looked after, cosy and comfortable, with a TV and plenty of tea and coffee. Breakfast was freshly cooked and piping hot, with free continental options too. I'd definitely recommend it.

The food was lovely, varied and freshly cooked, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean, with comfortable beds and a nice en suite shower room. It's a distinctive place to stay. Even though it's on a busy crossroads, it was quiet enough to leave the windows open. Take the building tour if you can, and visit the museum, which is discounted for guests. The location is ideal for the city, with a 10-20 minute walk to all the attractions. It felt safe to walk around.

My single room was huge, beautifully presented and had a high-end ensuite. The bed was really comfortable, and the room was well insulated and heated. The building itself has beautiful architecture and decor, and it's ideally placed, about five minutes from the station and ten minutes from the centre. My only minor issue was getting ready: there wasn't a socket by a mirror for the hairdryer. The TV was above the desk, where the sockets were, but there was no mirror there. I'll definitely come back.

Breakfast was great, freshly cooked, with lots of choice and good vegan and vegetarian options. The cafe also does great snacks, lunches and coffee. Everyone is friendly and helpful, and the welcome is always warm. I stayed in a lovely superior single on the third floor, freshly decorated with a comfortable bed, desk area, roomy gorgeous shower and soft furnishings. The self-catering kitchen is excellent. The stairs up to the third floor are quite steep, though it's only a short flight, and there's a lift to the second floor. It's very close to the station and a short walk into the centre. Parking is the drawback: Nunnery Walk car park has become very expensive at £25 a day. I used the brilliant Just Park app to book a local resident's driveway for a fraction of the cost.
