The Parsonage Hotel & Spa

The staff were so welcoming, and we’d happily book here again on another York visit. Getting into the city was easy, with a bus stop a short walk away and regular services; the designer outlet is on that route too, with plenty of good shops. We stayed three nights in The Cottage building, where our room was spacious and comfortable. Breakfast had lots of buffet choices, and we enjoyed two evening meals at The Fat Abbot, with delicious food and generous portions. We didn’t get to try the spa, but it looked lovely.

Gary at the spa front desk made a big difference to our stay. We’re dealing with a lot at the moment, and he went above and beyond, keeping us laughing and making us feel relaxed. He was attentive, funny, and incredibly welcoming. I hope he sees this and gets the recognition he deserves. The spa treatments were the best, and the staff were fantastic at what they do. Our cozy bedroom was beautiful, the bed was wonderfully comfortable, and we slept brilliantly both nights. It was an absolutely amazing stay.

We’d stay here again, and the lovely, helpful staff and good breakfast were highlights. The Fat Abbot pub is on site and serves lovely food. The hotel was nice, though parts felt dated. Our room was on the top floor, which meant quite a climb up the stairs if you have even slight difficulty walking. The hot water only came through in a trickle, and a small window outside the bedroom wouldn’t close fully. Neither issue affected our stay, but they were the reasons for the four stars.

The only thing that spoiled an otherwise superb visit to this lovely hotel and spa was the poolside beds. There are ten, but during the nearly two hours we were there, five had towels on them and nobody using them. If two had been available, we probably would have stayed longer. I’d suggest the person running the place address this. It was selfish of those inconsiderate people to reserve beds that way.
