The Victoria

We stayed on Friday 14th November because we were going to york barbican, just five minutes away. The rooms were modern and clean, and it’s good value. Nice atmosphere and friendly too. Ideal for having a meal before a show.

We felt really welcome when we came into this pub before the football started last night (20th Sept 25). The staff were fantastic, especially the woman who served us between about 3.30pm and 5.30pm. She was so nice and welcoming. It’s very family friendly, with kids’ games dotted around the tables. We just had a few drinks and played pool. They let us pay £10 to get £10 in coins for the table, which was amazing. We didn’t try the food, but it smelled amazing. When we’re back in York, this will be the first pub on our list to visit again!

I enjoyed the karaoke and thought the atmosphere was nice at the time, after the rebranding. Then I stupidly left my handbag on the bar while putting my great grand mother in a taxi. It was robbed. Someone took the money from my purse and dumped it. The staff did message the next day to say they’d found my purse and photos through CCTV, which I appreciated, but not who took the £200. Edit: This definitely happened here, it wasn’t a hoax. Do you really not remember? It wasn’t you who contacted me, it was a bar staff member who found my purse with ID, dumped behind some tables, and kindly messaged me on social media. I then reported the missing money to management. Sorry about the mistake on the rebranding, I’d seen the sign outside about a “new team”.

The landlord was pleasant and his breakfast was very good. A good place to stay for York, easy to get to and easy to head out from on the way home. There were a few minor niggles, but they were all sorted easily.
