Sunny Hotel

The people here were wonderful and very helpful. I especially liked Mr. George and his family. The place has a village feel, with a sea view and lots of greenery, and the beach is about an eight-minute walk away. You can rent a chair and umbrella for 5 Gel, or pay 15 Gel for another, more expensive option. It’s around 8 miles from Batumi, so you’ll need a taxi or can walk out to the station; the hotel can help arrange a taxi. At about 84 Gel per night, it’s a decent place to stay, though it’s more like an apartment with medium furnishings than a Gulf or Arabian-style hotel. There are four levels and no elevator, and the bathrooms aren’t fully equipped. There were quite a few harmless insects in the rooms.

I spent three months on a floor by myself, even though each of the three guest floors has four rooms, two on either side. The walls aren’t very thick, but because the rooms don’t connect, there was no disturbance on my floor. My room had a shower and toilet, and on the second and third floors there are glassed-in balconies about half the size of a room. The fourth floor is just a balcony. The kitchen and banquet hall are downstairs on the first floor, as is the washing machine. There’s a garden outside and a small gym on level -1. Each floor has a router, so the signal was excellent. The property has cameras and space for 6-7 cars without anyone blocking anyone else. I didn’t even lock my car. Tamaz and Gulnara run the hotel as a married couple. Their family and friends often visit, but everyone is quiet and polite. They have their own wine cellar, too. Pets are allowed. I’m grateful for their help and advice, and for the fact that they don’t seem to try to make money off their guests like many places in the region. A huge thank you to Georgiy, who became a true friend. It’s a cozy, welcoming place, with privacy, friendly people, and central heating. Makhinjauri had power cuts, but here the electricity was almost always on, except in severe weather. Having a car is handy: Batumi is 15 minutes away, while the port and train station are 10 minutes away. Shops are 1.5 km from the hotel. I’ll drop in to say hello even if they’re fully booked. The Sunny Hotel family made us feel right at home. Everyone was fantastic and so hospitable. Our room was clean and comfortable, with a lovely city view. It’s in a quiet area, close to the beautiful botanical garden, and felt like a great place to relax.

I wouldn’t recommend booking this hotel through AirBnb. My booking was only canceled after I contacted AirBnb support, and the money could take up to 15 days to return to my card. We had already bought tickets to Batumi, so we had to quickly find another place and pay again to avoid losing the trip. Here’s what happened: AirBnb showed available dates, so I requested a reservation. They charged the full stay right away and sent an automatic confirmation. But the host didn’t answer my greeting or request for instructions. When I called, he refused to check his AirBnb account, saying he didn’t care and was sure he had a manual confirmation. He said he hadn’t taken AirBnb bookings for a long time, the hotel was sold out at midnight, and he wasn’t going to cancel anything. After taking my money, he left me stranded, was rude on the phone, and hung up. He seemed completely lost and careless, unable to admit a mistake or apologize, though he had no trouble swearing and being rude.
