Surf Hostel

Bedbugs bit me badly, and the night was terrifying. I got no sleep. I asked to change beds, but was told there weren’t any others available. The next morning, they assured me someone would contact me about at least refunding the sleepless night with insects, but nobody followed up. I can only recommend avoiding this place.

The staff were nice, but the owner kept them on edge and treated them poorly in front of guests. Both hostels are dark, without natural light or ventilation, and the sewage smell lingers in the rooms. We stayed at Surf hostel and back2me hostel, both owned by the same man. He was rude and unfriendly at Surf hostel, then ripped us off at back2me hostel. Water began dripping from a mouldy patch in the ceiling straight onto our bed. We stayed for the first night we’d booked, but left the next day. He promised to refund the second night, which we had to spend at another hostel, but about six weeks have passed and he still won’t answer our emails or return the money. Avoid both places.

My first stay at Surf hostel was good, but coming back was a bad experience. Someone took my food from the kitchen. At 2am, staff and a guest who lives there were talking outside my dorm. I complained to the staff member responsible, but it didn’t stop. I wouldn’t stay here again.

The location is excellent for getting around, but the common room doesn’t feel cozy or welcoming. The upper bunk on the double bed is small and hard to climb into, so it was uncomfortable.
