Maia's Guesthouse

We left with a bad feeling about the whole stay. At checkout we were charged 450 Lari for dinner, breakfast, and four beds, the most expensive stop of our four days of trekking. After we complained, the owner lowered it to 350 Lari, but the experience still felt subpar. We were a family of four, two adults and two children, and the only guests staying overnight. The rooms seemed clean, but the bathrooms smelled of sewer, and we were kept awake until 1 a.m. by what seemed like a party hosted by the owners. The meals were pretty average and felt like an afterthought. After our four-day hike, Maia’s was by far the worst guesthouse we encountered. If you stay in Chvabiani, I’d look elsewhere and avoid Maia’s Guesthouse.

The village is charming and quiet, and the hosts even showed us their family tower and how they make traditional Svan hats. They served delicious meals and accommodated vegetarians. Our room was clean and comfortable, with a separate restroom and shower, plus a balcony looking over the Valley below. A very welcoming, comfortable guesthouse.

Dinner was delicious and plentiful, and the private bathroom and very comfortable room made for a good stay. It was perfectly placed for getting back on the trail the next day, probably one of the nicest places along the Mestia to Ushguli route. There were just two couples staying, including us, but they put us at separate tables, which made conversation awkward. Camaraderie is one of the best parts of thru hiking!

Dinner and breakfast were delicious and generous, with lots of local dishes to try. The hosts were lovely and helpful, and the clean, cozy rooms had balconies with great views. There’s a big garden too, and the stay felt really authentic. Wonderful hosts and tasty food. I highly recommend it! Thank you so much! :)
