Svaneti Apartments

You can see the towers from this cute little house, and the host is such a sweet lady.

I’m still here, and I’ve been really happy with the place. The apartment is tidy, with heaters in every room and a nice view. The lady who runs it is lovely, and she makes a fantastic breakfast herself each morning, ready right on the time you agreed.

Tamara made my stay memorable with homemade cake and raspberry jam on the first and third mornings, plus Adjarian Khachapuri on the second. It was my fourth trip to Georgia, and I’d always been nervous about trying Adjarian Khachapuri because of what it might do to my arteries. Glad to say I got past that fear. The apartment was spotless and spacious, with electric heaters. I was told electricity is free in Svaneti thanks to plentiful hydro power, while gas lines don’t reach the area. Tamara met me after I called with an estimate of my arrival time. The apartments are easy to locate, and Google Maps gets you there. It’s about a 15-minute walk to central Mestia, where you can find pretty much anything you need. I stayed three nights last weekend, and hope I can stay at Svaneti Apartments again on my next trip to Mestia and see Tamara and her mother.

The view out the windows is great, and the apartment gets nicely warm; you can adjust the radiator. Wi-Fi is available, though it isn’t secure or especially steady, with speeds ranging from 5 to 50 Mbit/s (5 MB/s). The room wasn’t very clean, with stains and hairs left by previous guests. There are cups, dishes, spoons, and other kitchen items, but no sharp knives, so bring one, and there’s no microwave. In the bathroom, liquid hand soap is the only washing product, so bring shampoo and shower gel. There’s a washing machine, and the owner can provide washing powder.
