Maka`s Guest House

It was clean, and it was the cheapest place in Stefantsminda. We booked at the last minute after we couldn't extend our stay elsewhere for one night. The private bathroom is outside the room. The shower swung between ice cold and scalding hot, with water coming out at random pressures. Worst of all, both mattresses were caved in and so lumpy that we woke up sore. I've slept on rocks that were more comfortable.

The rooms had plenty of space, quirky decor, and comfortable beds. One of the rooms we stayed in had a great view of Mt Kazbeg, and the guesthouse is only a block from the main road, which was convenient. The mother and daughter running the place are very kind, though they don't speak much English. They let us use their fridge and provided towels. We had a lovely stay and would absolutely recommend it.

The beds are saggy, and the hot water system never worked. The double room doesn't have a balcony or a private entrance as advertised. It uses the same entrance as all the other rooms. There is a ramp to the common building, if that counts as a balcony. The host spoke conversational English, but I only interacted with anyone three times: on arrival, when I was shown to my room; when I had to find someone to get a towel for a shower; and when someone chased me down as I was leaving to hike one morning to sell me a tour for the day. Too little, too late. It felt like they had no interest in running a guesthouse. There are many other friendly, welcoming guesthouses in the village.

The room was clean and nice. Talking with the owners is a little difficult, but still possible.
