Aura Plaza Hotel

We arrived expecting the room we’d booked for five people for two nights, only to be told it wasn’t available. The hotel said they didn’t even have that type of room. We had to sit there and look for somewhere else, then make another booking on the spot. It was an extremely disappointing, unprofessional experience, and I would never recommend this place.

Gana made me feel really looked after at Aura Plaza Hotel. She even prepared breakfast early for me, before the usual 9:00 AM start, and was attentive to what I needed. That thoughtfulness and warm welcome made my stay comfortable. I highly recommend the place for its friendly atmosphere and service.

Good hotel for the price. There’s a market about a 10-minute walk away.

Maria’s treatment of us left us feeling humiliated and stranded in Tbilisi. After we paid her cash, she called our Airbnb host, who then let us in. Maria had implied she would speak to the host if we paid her. She also said she had lived in India for a few years and was reluctant to give a room to “INDIANS.” The whole thing felt racist and deeply unpleasant. We felt she saw an opportunity to take advantage of our Asian family because we had few options in an unfamiliar place. This was our first night in Tbilisi. We’d booked the hotel because our Airbnb, owned by our host in the same building, was only available from the following night. We arrived around 2 am, slept, and checked out. The hotel has two managers: Gana was genuinely friendly and helpful, while Maria’s behavior seemed completely unsuited to hospitality. While we were taking our luggage to the Airbnb after checkout, Maria aggressively scolded my parents over a wet bed runner. It was wet, and my parents apologized, but her way of handling it was beyond unprofessional. She could have politely asked for compensation if there was a problem. Instead, she called our Airbnb host, exaggerated and made up details about our stay, and urged the host to cancel our booking. When we reached the Airbnb doorstep with all our luggage, elderly parents, and a toddler, the host insisted on canceling. We pleaded, but got nowhere. We went back to Maria and asked her not to do this. With no alternatives, we felt we had no choice but to pay her in cash. I’m an Airbnb superhost myself and have properties in multiple countries. After visiting over 15 countries, I know what decent hospitality and accommodation care should look like. This ordeal made for a sour start in Tbilisi, and it disturbed us for the first two days. The whole experience was shameful. Think twice before choosing this hotel. Maria, if you read this, please reflect on your behavior. Nobody deserves to be treated with that kind of disrespect.
