Hostel Mountain 13

I had the dorm mostly to myself during my three nights here, since it was so quiet. That did mean it didn't feel much like a hostel, though. The back garden and terrace are lovely, and the spot is nice, about halfway between the shops on the main street below and the funicular starting point further up the mountain. The beds are proper wood, with privacy curtains, lights and sockets. Staff are friendly and laid back, and it's good value.

The back garden has great views, and that helps make up for the hostel not being especially central. The place is clean and comfortable, with good bathrooms and powerful showers, and laundry is free. Staff are friendly and helpful, and there's a nice sociable feel. I've stayed twice and would come back when I'm in Tbilisi again.

It's a warm, welcoming place, but some of the other guests could do better. A hostel isn't a place where your mother cleans up after you, yet young guests leave dirty dishes and rubbish all over the kitchen.

The manager seemed okay when I met her, but my experience with the male staff was awful. Across more than 250 hostels, hotels and Airbnbs, these were the laziest people I've come across. They even left their own dishes in the messy kitchen, and I saw other reviews complaining about staff too. The house was very dirty, so I bought Domestos and cleaned my own bathroom. There was mould everywhere, and it looked as if it hadn't been properly cleaned in years. The whole place was freezing and needs more water heaters. Floorboards aren't fixed down properly, so they creak loudly and wake people when anyone walks around. If the manager replaced all the staff with hardworking, clean female staff and made a few repairs, it could be an okay hostel. As it is, don't stay here. There are plenty of better places in Tbilisi.
