The family is nice, but they didn’t seem to care when we complained. Hot water was very limited and could stop suddenly, so there wasn’t enough for two people to shower. The water stream was weak too. There’s no shared kitchen or place to make tea. The electricity was unreliable, the bathroom light didn’t work properly, and there was a constant bad smell in there. I wouldn’t eat dinner here. We got packet vegetable soup and dry bread. The cooked dishes tasted good, but portions were small, cold, and there were no refills.

The hot water stream was weak, though that’s common in the region. Ask the owner to arrange a horse tour to the glacier if you have half a free day in Ushguli. Once you understand not to expect a five-star hotel in this area, it’s a great place. The new twin units were comfortable and had private bathrooms, which isn’t common around here. The landlord and his wife were very friendly, and the evening and morning meals were delicious, especially after our 20 km hike. They make their own spices, and I liked one enough that I was given some as a present.

The rooms were clean and cozy, with a lovely window view and a terrace. The host was a very friendly, sweet teacher who commutes to Mestia every workday. She gave us a ride there in the morning for a very reasonable price. I liked the place and highly recommend it.
