Coconut Grove Bridge House

The location made getting to the sights easy, with Elmina Castle a short walk away, the ocean close by, and boats coming in along the river. We also liked the open outdoor sitting area. The room was pleasant and the beds were comfortable, and the staff were great about moving us when the A/C in the first room didn’t work. In the new room the A/C was decent, though the fan squeaked through the night. Breakfast was a drink and three slices of toast with one packet of jelly, which I wouldn’t really call breakfast. I would’ve left a review while we were there, but the WiFi was down. They said they’d fix it.

Easy enough to walk to Elmina Castle, and the fish market is right nearby, lively as can be. From the covered upstairs deck you can watch the fishing boats and all sorts of people coming and going. Early morning and late in the day seemed best for people watching. The bed was fine, the AC worked well, and while the menu was a bit limited, the staff tried hard and the food tasted great. A perfectly acceptable hotel.

It’s easy on the wallet, but that old “you get what you pay for” saying fits here. The mattresses were lumpy, the shower was broken, and most of the time there was no water. Food in the dining area was barely edible, and the staff weren’t very helpful. An interesting stay, I guess, but I’m sure I won’t be back.
