Bristol Hotel

The room was large, comfortable and clean, though the decor is a bit dated. The staff and how clean everything was more than made up for that. I loved the location, and the pool, bar and breakfast area were lovely too. I really enjoy staying here and would keep choosing it for the location and friendly staff.

The rooms look quite dated, but they were clean and each had air conditioning and a mini fridge. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and let me leave my luggage before check-in and after checkout. I didn’t use the pool or try breakfast, though the £8 price seemed good value. At £88 for one person, the room felt a little expensive, but accommodation in the old city tends to cost more because there isn’t much available, so this was decent value by comparison. The Bristol is right in the center of the old city. I’d say 4.5 stars, though I rounded up.

We spent New Year’s Eve and New Year at the hotel with friends and family. It’s tucked just behind the old town center in a quiet area, and we loved the beautiful, classic European interiors. Our family room had enough space for two adults and two children. There’s a lovely church around the corner that we visited too. The staff were friendly, and we’d come back for another holiday to enjoy the pool and bar.

The location is handy, just off Main Street, but the rooms felt so old-fashioned I wondered if we’d ended up at Fawlty Towers. The lighting was very dim and the signs on the floors were so bad that our friends and we kept getting lost trying to find each other’s rooms while they were here for their wedding. The bar was closed on the wedding evening, when we wanted a quiet drink after being out all day. The stay was okay, but not good. I felt sorry for the night receptionist because we were unhappy. Breakfast was okay, though the two women serving kept watching us as if we might run off. It was funny, but the morning after the wedding they could’ve been nicer. The hotel needs an upgrade.
