Old Camp

The common room has a friendly, communal feel, and the free shuttle is a welcome extra. Outside, the garden gives you a rare chance to spot musk oxen or see the northern lights right near your door. The place is a group of classic red cabins a few minutes from the airport. Rooms are plain but clean, with shared bathrooms and a kitchen. It’s cozy in a real Arctic camp sort of way. Nothing fancy, but that’s part of its charm, and it’s a solid budget option in Kangerlussuaq if you want comfort without extras.

Old Camp has charm and costs a lot less than the hotel. Just remember this is Kangerlussuaq, a tiny, remote town where things are expensive for good reason, but it’s peaceful and quiet. Don’t expect five-star rooms or service.

You get great views of the mountains and moraine landscape here. The rooms are nice, though small, and there’s a shared kitchen, toilet, and shower. The buildings are old, quirky, and a little worn, but they have the right hostel atmosphere. It’s about a 20-minute walk from the supermarket and airport.

The room was simple and practical, which seems typical in Greenland. The beds may feel small if you’re a bigger person, though they were fine for me. The hotel was very clean, heating worked well, and reception was friendly. There’s a mini shop at reception with drinks, some clothes, and souvenirs. Breakfast is basic: bread, cheese, milk, cereal, and a few extras. There’s also a shared area where you can make tea or coffee and keep your food in the fridge. The airport transport was good. Wi-Fi is free now and worked well enough for video calls, though it wasn’t especially fast.
