Palm Camayenne

The housekeeping staff are the one bright spot. They kept my room tidy and clean. I’d give this place half a star for that, if I could. Otherwise, avoid it unless you have no choice. At 270 USD/night, it’s far too expensive for what you get. I know Africa can be expensive, but this hotel doesn’t merit that price. Room sizes vary a lot, even though the rates are the same. They’re very basic, as are the bathrooms, which show obvious wear. My first room had some mold on the walls. I didn’t personally mind as long as the room stayed clean and tidy. Only one of the three restaurants is operating, and it’s outdoors. That’s a nuisance at night with the mosquitoes, and service is very slow. The food and breakfast are both very average, nothing special. The airport shuttle costs 20 euros per person for a 15 minute ride, which seems crazy. Ask for a taxi driver instead to save money. They may promise a shuttle, but what you get is a regular taxi. The worst part was the weekday party on the terrace directly below the rooms. The receptionist told me it would end at 11 PM, but it went on until 3 AM. I called back a couple of times and nobody bothered to answer. I couldn’t sleep all night and was exhausted for my flight home. I usually don’t leave bad reviews unless something is really scandalous. I don’t know who told them this was a "5 star hotel".

The calm setting and lovely sea view make Hotel Camayenne a good place to stay. Rooms are comfortable, and the staff are professional. It works well for either business or leisure in Conakry.

When we checked in, the service was awful and the staff were unprofessional. Right outside our door, they said, “We counted the number of towels so if you try to steal them we will know.” Who says that to a guest? I don’t recommend this place.

The rooms were clean, and the mattresses felt new and firm. It was a good, safe place to stay, about 15 minutes from the ports and airport. The hotel is right by the ocean, and the Sunday buffet had a great range of food. Breakfast is served on the second floor in a nice restaurant.
