We loved the family atmosphere at Gardenia. It’s a small hotel run by a Greek family, perched on a steep hill. On the way up we wondered where we were going, but from the top there’s an amazing view over Affantou towards the sea. Our room was small but pleasant, and we didn’t need anything bigger. It was clean, which mattered most to us. The family were welcoming and sorted out a scooter for us to rent for the week. Whenever we had a question or a problem, we could get in touch with them. Breakfast was simple and tasty: freshly boiled eggs, fruit, yogurt, fresh bread, coffee and orange juice. On two evenings when we didn’t feel like going out, we ate with the family at the hotel. The homemade mussaka, pasta with prawns and salad were all great. We had such a good time. We highly recommend the hotel, and we’d definitely return to the island and stay with this lovely family again.

The breakfast was good, but the pool shuts at 6pm. I prefer swimming later in the day when it’s cooler. Our room faced west, so the morning light was very bright and made it hard to sleep.
