Nikos was happy to answer our questions and help with requests, and his breakfast was fabulous. The room stayed cool even when it was over 30 degrees outside. It was very clean, with fresh towels and bedding often, and we enjoyed sitting on the balcony looking over town. Getting there from the port is a workout, though, with lots of stairs to climb.
Nikos was the highlight for us. He was kind, helpful, and always had good tips about what to see, while checking that we were happy with everything. The pool is modest in size but well equipped, and a nice place to unwind when we weren't out exploring the island. Our apartment at Hotel Ariadne Apartments in Agia Galini was spacious and clean, with a handy kitchenette. Breakfast had lots of tasty choices, and dinner included fresh, carefully prepared Cretan food as well as dishes suited to international visitors. We had a lovely stay and would gladly come back. We had a great week here, and the price made the experience even better. The one extra charge was air conditioning at 6€ per day, although Check24 had listed it as included. The location high above town gives you an amazing view. Our room was spotless and fairly modern, and the pool was clean and well looked after. We also enjoyed the restaurant by the pool. The family who runs the place and all the staff were really friendly, so I'd happily give it five stars.
The owner and his family put customer service first, and the taverna is well worth using: delicious local food, high quality, and very reasonable prices. The apartments are cleaned daily and have plenty of space, comfortable double beds, a good bathroom with a rain shower, and a fully equipped kitchen. You can ask about rental cars too, as they cost less than elsewhere in town. There are a lot of steep climbs around Agia Galini, so good mobility helps. In return, you get lovely views over the village and harbour. Fully recommended. Edit: the rooms have now been refurbished!
The staff were pleasant and seemed to take real care to keep everything neat. The food also looked quite convincing. Wherever your room is, the ocean view is lovely. We were surprised to be asked for an extra 6 EUR per day for air conditioning. I don't know if that's standard when booking through the Deutsches Reisebuero, and I could be mistaken. At least the bathroom and wireless Network were included, with no extra charge.
