The uphill walks can be a lot, so anyone with a heart condition or breathing problems may be better off hiring a car or quad for the stay. Marann Caves, though, was amazing, with gorgeous views. The accommodation itself was beautiful, Maria provided excellent service, and we got wine on arrival. Cleaning was done every other day, and our questions were answered quickly. Totally worth five stars.

The balcony and hot tub look out over the castle and Akrotiri, with the distant lights of Fira and Oia and the cruise ships circling the hot springs. The room was quiet, much bigger than we expected, and full of lovely little details. It felt more like a bespoke, romantic apartment than a room, and we spent just under €400 for a week for two. It exceeded my expectations. We were looked after from our airport arrival through the whole stay. Mr George drove us on the pre-arranged airport shuttle, stopping at a supermarket and bakery before taking us to the main desk, which isn’t in Akrotiri, then on to our room at Marann Cave in the heart of Santorini. At the desk, Anastasia gave excellent care, took payment, and prepared a tailored map with island recommendations. The owner came by the next day to check that we had what we needed and were happy with the spotless cleanliness. Both she and Anastasia told us to get in touch for anything, including information about buses, tours, and local sites.
