Melidonia Suites

We ended up staying at Melidonia Suites unexpectedly, and felt so lucky we did. The suites are spacious, seem brand new, and have incredible views. The staff were kind and professional, with unmatched hospitality that made sure we were comfortable. We’re definitely saving this place for our next trip to Santorini.

My husband and I booked a spontaneous wedding anniversary trip to Santorini, reserving a room at this hotel when we arrived. We chose a larger, more expensive room to treat ourselves to a comfortable, special stay. From arrival, though, things became more and more uncomfortable. The owner initially welcomed us kindly, then immediately offered a free “upgrade.” Since we had booked that day and knew which rooms were still available, we were suspicious. When she showed us the room, it was clearly much cheaper than the one we had booked, though she presented it as an upgrade. We pointed out that it was around €500 cheaper, but she kept insisting and was pushy about it. Only after we turned it down several times did she give us our original room, with comments about why we needed such a big room in the first place. Check-in took over three hours. The owner crossed personal boundaries, and her communication felt intrusive, passive aggressive, and disrespectful, even when she tried to make it sound polite. Ordering dinner became another stressful issue. She was hard to reach by phone, and once we managed to order, she insisted on choosing my dish. I politely asked for Falafel because I’m vegetarian, but the pasta I’d declined was delivered instead. That felt disrespectful and controlling too. The next day, we noticed the room got almost no sunlight because of its layout. When we politely asked whether anything could be done, she reacted in a passive aggressive way and said all rooms were booked. Yet several rooms still appeared available online. The only room she offered was an upgrade for an extra €500 per night. After two stressful days, we decided to leave one day early and enjoy the rest of our honeymoon without this negativity. We told her politely that evening, and the situation escalated dramatically. She became loud, disrespectful, and overly personal, stormed into our room without warning, falsely accused us of damaging it, and yelled throughout the hotel. We felt emotionally intimidated and manipulated. Staff members later told us privately that this kind of behavior happens often. We took photos and videos because the damage accusations were completely unfounded. Until then, we’d barely complained, stayed respectful, and just wanted some peace during our wedding anniversary holiday. The hotel had a major negative impact on our anniversary. We found the service unprofessional and the communication manipulative and disrespectful, and many things we were told simply weren’t true. For the price, the experience didn’t meet the standards we expected from a hotel in this category. We had a wonderful time on Santorini, but only outside the hotel. Our stay there was stressful, disappointing, and at times emotionally overwhelming. We can’t recommend it.

The rooms, views, food, and staff were all amazing, and the breakfast and other food were especially good. We even got engaged on this trip, and the staff made it so special. Cleopatra, the manager, made our holiday an absolute dream. From the moment we arrived, our lovely host made us feel at home and went above and beyond to make the whole holiday special. I couldn’t thank her enough, and I can’t wait to see her again when we return.

The team made our stay feel special, like we were welcomed and cared for by a small Greek family. For my wife and me, it was much better than the usual hotel service. Special thanks to Mrs Cleopatra, who took good care of us and helped plan and book the activities, taxis, and restaurants we wanted. Collins handled our room service throughout the trip, Chef Katerina made some of the tastiest dishes we’ve ever had, and Ms Becky from housekeeping was very sweet and kind. Everyone was helpful and keen for us to have a great time. Our suite, "Nefeli," was really good, with a pool, outdoor seating, and a sunbed. The hotel is modern and in one of the quietest parts of Santorini, which made for a relaxing getaway. The views were lovely, and the food was really good too: breakfast every day and a very good dinner selection. The chef is really, really good. It’s worth knowing that the hotel is far from Fira and Oia, so you’ll need a taxi, Uber, or a rental car. The drive from the hotel to Oia is about 40 minutes. Santorini view’s website is also worth checking for tours and activities that suit your budget. We visited in June, when the price was in the average range for Santorini’s peak season. Rooms, food, staff, and comfort were all excellent.
