Yannis Apartments

We stayed for two nights in June 2018, two of us in the four-person apartment. It had the partial sea view we were promised, and the location in Amoudara was about as good as it gets, though generally I wouldn't choose the area as a place to stay. The apartment was very basic, with three beds for four people. With luggage, I can hardly imagine four people staying more than one night. The old items, including the fridge, did work, so that may be fine for some guests. The shower was the main problem. The shower tray was tiny, and the mixer delivered so little water that washing my hair or body was impossible unless I removed the shower head. Using water straight from the rubber hose wasn't convenient. The curtain was too short, so water spilled onto the floor every time and we had to mop it up, though the hosts had left the necessary supplies. I assume these problems were meant to save water, which might help the hosts' costs but made things difficult for guests. We also found the air conditioning was locked with a key and didn't work. We only discovered this at night, after struggling with lots of mosquitoes when there was no wind and deciding to shut the windows. The towels and sheets seemed to have been washed with too little water or detergent rinsed out poorly. They were stiff, as if they'd never had fabric softener. During check-in, we were told this was the best apartment they had, so keep these issues in mind if you're planning to stay.

The family were so friendly and welcoming, and Miss Nicky and everyone else made the place feel like home. Our apartment was clean, with a nice garden and sea views. The beach, restaurants and supermarket were all nearby, and the city center was about 10 minutes away by bus. We really enjoyed staying here and plan to come back soon. I stayed for two months and had no problems with the hosts. They were helpful and friendly. It's a little way out from heraklio, but the buses run regularly.

The location worked perfectly for me, with everything I needed in the area, and I felt at home right away. The family running Yannis Apartment put a lot of care into keeping it clean and welcoming, and they were always around if I needed anything. It's a friendly, family-run place, which you don't find everywhere. I was very comfortable during my stay. I've found my favorite spot and will definitely come back for another vacation.
