The food was genuinely some of the best I’ve had in Greece, though there wasn’t much variety to choose from. The hotel looks nice, and most of the staff were friendly. The rest of the hotel was clean, but our superior room, supposedly the best one, felt dated and was dirty. The cleaner was meant to come every three days but didn’t clean properly. She didn’t change the sheets, and once took our towels without leaving clean ones. Things in the room didn’t work right either. One evening we only had cold water, and sometimes the electricity or water stopped working altogether. The pool was so cold that swimming wasn’t really possible. All-inclusive only came with beer and wine, no spirits, which they don’t make. I’m giving three stars mainly for the food. I couldn’t sleep comfortably because the sheets weren’t staying on the bed, and I woke up lying on the bare mattress.

We spent six days here in August 2022, and came away with good memories. It’s a simple place, but completely adequate for what we paid. Our room was in the renovated section, clean and functional, and the staff were very friendly and helped us a lot. The location worked well, close to the beach and village center with some nice tavernas. It’s also handy for reaching Crete’s main highway and driving in either direction. Parking nearby was a bit chaotic, but we always found a spot. The food was straightforward, and everything we tried tasted good. The pool area is small and often crowded, though the beach is only five minutes away.

The room was cleaned every day, and the hotel and pool were very clean. The bartenders deserve a shout-out. Still, I wouldn’t recommend the all-inclusive deal. The food was awful, repeated every day, with very few options and no fruit except apples. We often had to eat out despite being all-inclusive. Some days there was beer, other days there wasn’t. The machine juice tasted nothing like real cola, Fanta, or other juice, and the coffee was bad too. There were mosquitoes all over the hotel. Maybe it’s better without all-inclusive.

The location in Analipsi was great, with the beach and bus stop a short walk away, a supermarket around the corner, and several restaurants nearby. I recommend the pizza at Vulcano. The room bins were emptied and the beds made every day. But if you’re booking Sunny Resort for an all-inclusive holiday where you’ll spend lots of time at the hotel, I think you’ll be disappointed. The three-star rating didn’t match our experience, and this isn’t a luxury hotel. We went out for at least one meal a day because the food was mostly the same each time. There wasn’t much to do, and although spa services were offered, we never saw or heard of anyone using them. Food and drinks were very limited, especially for vegetarians. In the morning there were only three non-fizzy drink flavors and water. During the day, at the pool bar and with meals, drinks were either fizzy or alcoholic. The pool bar water came from the same nozzle as the carbonated drinks, so it was brown and tasted of cola. I can’t handle fizzy drinks and don’t drink alcohol, so that was a real letdown. Drinks came only in disposable plastic cups, which meant a lot of waste. Food was sometimes undercooked or not heated through, and hot dishes were often cold. We didn’t spend much time by the pool because it smelled like a cesspool and there weren’t many loungers. The woman at the pool bar was very unfriendly, and the music was loud and unpleasant. The drinks and “snacks” there were limited too. We didn’t try the cocktails, but heard they weren’t good either. Our toilet kept breaking. We reported it several times, and it would sometimes be fixed, only to stop working again the next day. A toilet that won’t flush needs a proper fix. We also asked the woman at reception for an extra key so I could stay out later than my companion, and she rolled her eyes and said it wasn’t possible. That seemed ridiculous. The room air conditioning was loud and stayed on whenever the balcony doors were shut. To sleep without it, we had to leave the balcony door open, which could be noisy depending on the room. The hotel wasn’t well soundproofed, so there were noises all night. The doors also took a hard pull to close, and we kept hearing that throughout the night.

I spent six days here from the end of May into early June, and the calm atmosphere was just what I wanted for resting. The staff were consistently friendly, helpful, and understanding. My room was clean and got regular cleaning, with plenty of towels, shampoo, and other supplies. I was surprised by the negative comments about the food. There was plenty to choose from, hot lunch and dinner dishes, desserts, and good variety: musaka, lamb, little octopi, squid, my favorite tzatziki made with excellent Greek yogurt, and delicious tomatoes. What could improve is the coffee, which I wanted to be able to get throughout the day, and the bar. With all-inclusive, I expected an open bar, but the free coffee and drinks weren’t worth having. The only good coffee and drinks cost extra. I honestly recommend this hotel.
