Romanza Rooms

We were welcomed with a breakfast basket and bottles of water, and the hostess was incredibly kind and helpful. The balcony view was stunning, and our room was spotless with lovely decor. Ano Syros and the port are both very close.

Mrs. Rita was expecting me and gave me a warm welcome. Romanza Studios sit between Ano and Kato Ermoupoli, in the capital of this historically rich island. The rooms are clean and nicely furnished, though my mattress felt a little worn and could probably be replaced. A small kitchenette would make it possible to prepare basic things now and then. Breakfast is one example, since there isn't anything nearby and you have to go to Kato Syros for it. Unless you've hired a moped, which makes getting around more freely possible. Even with one, be ready to climb some steps to Ano Ermoupoli, and check ahead to see which of its few cafes serve breakfast. The island involves a lot of walking and climbing steps. If you're arriving by ferry, I'd advise arranging a pickup or renting a vehicle. Neither option worked out for me. I assume that because I came outside peak season, I was told to take a taxi for €3.50. I ended up paying €5; the driver said there was always a port and airport surcharge. I didn't want to argue at the beginning of my stay. The rooms with a view cost extra, but from the terrace you can see the lower town and the whole bay below. I paid €40 a night off-season, before Easter. Syros isn't a typical Greek tourist island, and I think the value for money could have been a bit fairer. Still, I recommend Rita's rooms. It's a small family business, and Rita will look after you if you don't enjoy the impersonal feel of a hotel.

The room was lovely and cleaned daily, and the view was very nice. Although the property is quite high up, the bus made getting around easy, with a stop just across from the rooms. The hostess was welcoming and treated us to some goodies. I'd recommend it and would choose it again on my next visit!

The view from the balcony is incredible, with all of Ermoupoli laid out below. Everything was sparkling clean, and Mrs. Margarita was so polite, cheerful, and ready to help with whatever we needed. The breakfast basket with jam, butter, rusks, and coffee was a lovely extra. Such a nice hotel!
