The room was simple, clean, and comfortable, with a lovely view over the countryside. I liked waking to piglets gently grunting and birds chirping, and in the mornings I often saw birds of prey circling high above the hotel. The woman running the place was welcoming and easy to talk to. A few Greek words go a long way! Anogia is a pleasant village and a great base for exploring the Nida plateau and Mount Ida (Mt. Psiloritis), where the Idean cave is found. It was quiet, but lively at night, with local cafes, bars, and live music in the city square. Shops along the main street sell local cheese and vegetables. The cool, clean air felt refreshing after the summer heat on the coast. I stayed a couple of nights in August and found it relaxing and comfortable. Breakfast is optional at 6€, which felt a bit expensive. The prepacked single portions of jam, butter, and honey were the cheap hotel kind, and I’d have preferred fresh ones from local producers. The Greek coffee she made was excellent, and the hard boiled egg was simple but cooked perfectly. She also offered me fresh fruit from her kitchen garden. Good value for money.

The hostess is amazing, and the view of the mountains from the balcony is just as good.

The owner is very strict. She seemed almost like she wasn’t running a hotel, more like a strict hostel.

The woman who runs the house is really nice. The accommodation feels frozen in the 70s, though, and the bathroom was a bit dirty.

It’s an old place with plenty of charm, and the view is great. The owner was very nice, and the price was fair. I’d happily come back.
