Alva Athens Hotel

The shuttle was great, and the driver was really nice and shared helpful information about the local area. Breakfast was delicious, too. The room was just right, not too big or too small, and the price was very affordable. It was an enjoyable walk to nearby restaurants and shops. I had a great time and would come back and recommend it to anyone visiting.

My room had a broken blind. I reported it, but it was never repaired. The night staff and housekeeping were much more pleasant than the day staff, and the difference in attitude was obvious. The day staff, especially John at reception, were rude, dismissive, and unprofessional throughout my stay. Breakfast was supposed to run from 7:30-10:30. At exactly 10:30, while I was still eating, they switched off the lights and told me to finish in the dark. After some back and forth they turned them on again, but then said I had to leave immediately. I also saw John shouting at an elderly couple and telling them they “need to learn to follow rules.” Absolutely shocking. The day staff turned what could have been a simple, average stay into a bad one.

The hotel is new, very clean, and has great amenities and service. It's just a few steps from the metro, a main street, and plenty of places to eat. The area is busy, but don't let the traffic or graffiti put you off, it's Athens. Tourist sights are only a 15-20 minute walk away. We'd definitely stay at the Alva Hotel again if we return to Athens. Efkharisto!

I thought this was a hidden gem for budget travelers or families. The room was nice, breakfast was enjoyable, and the staff were very nice. Security also seemed good. It's an affordable, relatively safe and accessible option, just north of the Omonia neighborhood and close to major shopping and restaurant areas to the south. You can hear traffic, but that's something you get used to at a 3-star hotel in Europe. I'd recommend it.
