Ergon House Athens Hotel

We picked the Medium room for our two nights, since we planned to spend more time exploring Athens than relaxing indoors. It suited us well, with comfortable beds and enough room for our things. We were on the same floor as the check-in desk, but noise wasn’t an issue. There’s a small gym, nothing special, though we were getting plenty of steps around the city anyway. The location made it easy to walk to the places we wanted to see, including The Acropolis, Plaka, and Monastiraki, along with lots of restaurants and bars. We only needed a car service to and from the airport. Ergon House offered to arrange one, but we booked privately in advance. We were there for the Athens part of our honeymoon last August, after a local chef and restaurant owner in the United States recommended ERGON House Athens. We’re glad they did. As a newly married couple who love food, it was a perfect fit. The complimentary breakfast was incredible. The poached eggs on a bagel with Greek yogurt were unlike anything we’d had before, and we still daydream about them. The pancakes and spanakopita were phenomenal too, and we asked for fresh fruit each morning. We also got pastries at the ERGON Bake House across the street, which were just as good. A cocktail on the rooftop after a day of exploring was a lovely way to end the night.

The breakfast and food at Ergon House really stood out to me, even after years of travel and meals at several Michelin-starred restaurants. It’s such a welcoming atmosphere that I found it hard to leave the hotel. The thoughtful design feels warm, with contemporary style and Greek identity together, and the staff were kind and welcoming in a genuine, personal way. The hotel’s distinctive scent stayed with me, and carried into the room through the locally made shampoo and shower gel. Everything was impeccably clean. A must for food lovers. I’ll be back.

I was ready to leave after sitting for 40 minutes and repeatedly asking, honestly begging, for someone on staff to pay attention to us. The interiors are lovely and the location is great, but the service was a whole other story. The menu looked good, and the people at nearby tables seemed to be enjoying their food, but I wasn’t willing to be treated that way. The manager eventually came over ready to take our order, but we’d already decided to eat somewhere else.

My reservation was non-refundable, but I couldn’t get to the hotel because of extreme, unforeseen circumstances and an airspace closure in my country. The Ergon House team responded with real empathy and integrity, going out of their way to arrange a full refund. They treated me like a person, not just a booking number. I can’t thank them enough. I’m already planning another stay and will book directly. You don’t often find a hotel with that much heart.
