One Three One

The only thing going for this place was its location next to the Irish bar. The Wi-Fi didn’t work at all, the bed was rock solid, and there were only three pillows for two people. The entrance and stairs felt straight out of a horror film, with haunted vibes and steps that sounded ready to give way. The room was filthy. The bathroom hadn’t been cleaned, with dried toothpaste in the sink and dirt at the bottom of the shower. It also reeked of sewerage so badly that we left at 6 a.m. because we couldn’t stand it any longer. If you care about your health, getting decent sleep, or not potentially getting possessed, avoid this place at all costs.

We had a nice time and I don’t regret staying, but a few things are worth sharing. The location is great, though the building isn’t clearly marked, so check the numbers carefully. The owner was kind and responsive. We were two people in separate rooms, then I got another room partway through, and our keys opened all three rooms we used. That was our biggest concern. The Wi-Fi was extremely slow and unreliable, although it did remind us to put our phones away and enjoy Athens. In some rooms the shower curtain is too short, so the bathroom can flood if you’re not careful. My first room had a long enough one. We were told Booking.com hadn’t charged the right environmental tax, so we paid almost €50 extra. It would have been good to know when we booked, rather than on arrival. We were initially told we also owed another €6 for the third room, but the owner waived that.

This felt more like an Airbnb than a regular hotel, and there’s no Acropolis view from the room or balcony. Still, the room was clean, the bed and AC worked, and the price was reasonable for the location. It was convenient enough, but noise carried on until about 3 a.m.

The apartment is lovely, with a pretty feel, a big terrace, and a spacious bathroom. It’s in the heart of Athens, almost beside Akropolis, and they leave free coffee and tea in the room. We’d booked the wrong month and only realized when we were standing there, but they gave us the room anyway. That was amazing, they really saved our “lives.” We’ll definitely come back and HIGHLY RECOMMEND it. Thanks so much ❤️
