Vienna Hotel

We enjoyed our stay, though next time I’ll ask for a quiet room. Ours was noisy enough to wake us now and then, and it had a slightly odd smell, especially in the bathroom. Both elevators were extremely small. Some streets by the hotel felt dangerous, but the route to the metro seemed fairly safe.

The staff were really nice, but I had an uncomfortable stay and wouldn’t return. The building is old, the rooms are loud, the shower is tiny, the lifts are tiny, and breakfast was very poor. The area can feel dodgy, especially if you’re alone on the streets behind the hotel. The main roads toward the center through Omonia square seemed better. We also got charged twice for the stay. They said it hadn’t been paid, although the travel agency had paid in advance. I’d like to think it was a mistake on their end.

The reception and hotel staff were very welcoming, and I’d stay here again. It’s right in central Athens for a good price, with easy access to everything from the Acropolis to bars, cafes, and restaurants.

My partner and I were at the Vienna for ten nights, and the staff were the friendliest and most helpful I can remember at a hotel. Even a quick stop to pick up the key at the end of the day was pleasant. They happily helped with printing something, booking a taxi, finding a plaster, and even identifying a song I’d heard on the street. They also spoke great English. Omonia square is only a couple of minutes away, and Syntagma Square is walkable, so the location is great. The surroundings do look a little impoverished, but I think that’s just appearances, and nothing will happen to you.
