Breakfast by the pool on the terrace was a lovely start to the day, and when the Cretan sun got too hot we could head to the upstairs balcony or drive off to see more of the island. Villa Sofia is in a quiet part of the lovely village of Prines, about a 10-minute drive from central Rethymno. The house is spacious, clean, and has a modern kitchen, three bedrooms, and several showers. Our host was very kind and easy to reach whenever we needed him. Ask him about boat hire. We really can’t recommend Villa Sofia highly enough.

The service was perfect, and the villa itself was comfortable and very well equipped. It’s in a small village, with tavernas and a little shop just steps away. A good fit if you’d rather stay outside the city but still be close to it, Rethymnon is only a 10-minute drive away.

We stayed for a week and liked the peaceful setting. Two good tavernas and a small shop are nearby, and bus or taxi connections to Rethymnom are good, with the bus at 1,30e and a taxi at 10 e. Bicycle routes and trails start close by too.

This picturesque little village has a quiet, well-equipped house that works well for families or groups of friends. Just be aware the mezzanine bedroom doesn’t have air conditioning.
