Asterion Suites & Spa

The service was impeccable, and I loved being able to order drinks to my sunbed through the app. I spent five days here in September and had an amazing time. If you want a proper chance to relax with great food and cocktails, this is the place.

We wouldn't return or recommend this hotel. My girlfriend and I travel quite a bit and have stayed in boutique places with relaxed luxury, so we have a fair idea of what good service looks like. The rooms were generally clean, tidy and spacious, but the shower smelled of sewage, had black mould in the crevices and on the shower head, and leaked enough to flood the bathroom. I reported the leak to reception several times, but nothing was fixed. The fan switch was inside the shower, and when I pulled its cord, the switch, back box and wires came out. The pool was dirty, with green and black algae or sludge in the grout. The pool towels were ripped, scruffy and long overdue for replacement. The food was below average at both the buffet and the speciality restaurant, whether breakfast, lunch or dinner. Restaurant service was very inconsistent. Drinks were sometimes wrong or took so long that I'd finished eating before they arrived, once about 30 minutes. Staff serving food often looked scruffy, with food on the fronts of their clothes. This happened regularly and made me question cleanliness elsewhere too. The hotel needs a serious shake-up and better staff training. I don't understand all the highly rated reviews. If you're choosing between this hotel and Lindos Mare in Rhodes, go to Lindos Mare. The food and service there are spot on.

The food was so good that we skipped the option of booking the adjoining à-la-carte restaurant, even though we were on half board. There was plenty to choose from at the buffet, everything cooked perfectly, and breakfast was just as good. The restaurant staff at breakfast were wonderful too. We were so impressed that we booked another stay for a couple of months after getting home, which is something we never do. We spent eleven nights at Asterion Suites. Our ground-floor suite had a swim-up pool, a little kitchen and fridge, and a separate sleeping area with a very comfortable king bed. It was spacious, spotless and luxurious, with a large walk-in shower. Everyone at the hotel was attentive, friendly and welcoming. Special thanks to Goran and Manolis in the restaurant, and Chris, Yianis and Dimitra at reception. The grounds were beautifully kept, with a large pool, comfortable sunbeds and a modern bar. The beach had good-quality loungers, a lifeguard on duty and space at any time of day. A couple of miles from Platanias, the location suited us because we wanted somewhere quiet and relaxed. A paved path runs for about a mile along the beach toward Maleme, with magnificent sunset views. There are also a couple of beach bar-restaurants nearby. The one to the right served good food and drinks, especially draft beer, since the hotel only has bottled beer. A marvelous hotel that delivered on everything we hoped for from a five-star stay.

Asterion Suites & Spa has become our favorite resort in Crete after a fantastic week there. The intimate boho feel was so relaxing, and there were always plenty of poolside beds. Our room was cleaned every day and the mini fridge restocked. The beach was gorgeous, and we could order drinks to our sunbeds in the app. We went all-inclusive and were blown away by the food. Manolis runs things so well. Breakfast had a fresh selection, lunch was amazing, and every à-la-carte dinner was delicious. We even ate out one night, then found ourselves missing the resort's food. The cocktails and branded spirits were great and felt premium. The staff were exceptional, polite and attentive, always checking in to see how we were doing. Thanks to the whole team for a memorable stay.
