Eulogia Casa

A lovely place to stay, with a great host.

A great place to stop in Chania, with a fantastic location and superb stylish architecture around it. Highly recommended.

Eulogia Casa has an excellent spot in the old town, near the waterfront and lighthouse. The apartment is in an ancient building that the owner says dates from the Venetian period and was used as a warehouse for the queen. That history sparked all sorts of pictures in my mind about what might have been stored there and who came through. That’s where the good things end for me. The place may have been in better shape once, but it feels neglected now. The damp, basement smell was the first thing I noticed, and it was very unpleasant. Downstairs, where the bed and bathroom are, there were greasy handprints on the glass wall. It looked like someone had had a passionate night. The apartment was poorly maintained and dirty in places, as shown in the photo. The toaster was really dirty, and when I opened the oven hoping to use that instead, it was even dirtier. My New Year’s Eve would have been almost ruined if I hadn’t tried to stay positive. The apartment is in the old town, with a window facing a small tavern. I booked off-season and was lucky, since I think it could be quite noisy in summer, so bring earplugs. I’d give it a 3 and wouldn’t recommend it until the owner fixes these problems.

We felt very welcome, and the host let us check out late since there were no bookings the next day. The house was perfect for us in its location, layout and features, and it was very economical. I’d have paid twice as much. It’s a place I’d like to stay at again.
