Hotel Akrotiri

Lena was so welcoming and friendly, and even suggested some very good restaurants. We stayed at a few places in Crete, but none matched this hotel's warmth. The rooms were spacious and really nice. Breakfast was perfect, with homemade cakes served on the balcony overlooking Chania.

The front balconies have an amazing view, and the atmosphere is excellent. The room and dining room decor feels distinctive, with the owners’ love for the place showing through. The people were polite. The one small drawback is that it’s a little outside the center, so you’ll need a car.

It may be a two-star hotel, but the care and service felt far above that. The owner greeted us warmly, was very kind, and upgraded us for free to a larger room with a better view. It was the biggest room we stayed in in Greece, and there was a complimentary bottle of wine waiting for us. Breakfast was the best we had at any hotel, with Cretan specialties and fresh vegetables that I think came from the hotel garden. Coffee, hot water, and tea are available in the lobby all day. My girlfriend was delighted that the room’s hairdryer had a diffuser for curly hair, something she’d never seen at a hotel. When we left, the owner gave us a box of local tea. We felt very much at home here. I’d definitely recommend it if you’re visiting Chania.

The staff were wonderful, and the owner is lovely. They happily pointed us toward local places, shared travel advice, and told us where locals eat. Breakfast was a treat, with homemade cake and every hot drink you could think of. Honestly, couldn’t have asked for a better hotel.
