Ifigenia by Captain Michalis

Michalis was warm and courteous, and the room he said was the most romantic certainly lived up to that. It had two levels, a whirlpool in the middle, a small balcony and a working wood oven. Sadly, it was already too hot for us German potatoes to use the oven. The rustic decor suited the old town. Breakfast was served at a little café a few meters down the street, apparently opened just for the few guests staying there in the off season. The lady making breakfast, who I assume was Michalis’s daughter, quietly took the menu Michaelis was offering and made us fried eggs, little sausages, Greek yogurt with honey, bread with meat and cheese, and delicious Greek coffee. Thanks for a lovely stay!

The service came from two lovely, smiling, generous women. The Captain felt like Greece itself. They left complimentary tea, coffee and a water boiler, plus a bottle of raki. This place is for travellers rather than tourists. The rooms feel from another time, with real keys and keyholes, thank God. You have to be open to the Greek sense of time. I’ll let the photos say the rest.

Breakfast is served at small tables right out in the street, which is nice for people watching. The building is simple, perhaps once a tower, with romantic rooms and jacuzzis. It’s on a quiet city street not far from the harbour.

A little quirky and worn, which suits the Old City. The place was small and clean, in a wonderful spot just off the waterfront. The hot tub was lovely, and the whole place had a romantic feel. We loved it.
