Poco Loco Bed & Breakfast

We booked a room for tonight, but when we arrived the place looked shut down. The door was locked and nobody answered the phone. What happened? We paid for the room and were left stranded on the side of the road. George, please get in touch as soon as possible if the business is still open. Thanks.

The food was good and the place looked lovely, with nice decor and a great spot in the market. But when our two-year-old touched a decoration on the floor, the boss started yelling at him. He was aggressive and not at all gentle with a small child. I nearly left before we were served, though we stayed, which was a mistake. He was also the only one who could handle the bill and was aggressive about that too. It could have been a perfect place, but the boss ruined it. Don't go with a child.

The old town location is great, close to restaurants and the port and lighthouse, and the hotel itself is kind of cute. Sleep was another matter. In room #2, the street-facing window let in every car and bike, plus the Saturday market setup starting at 4:30am. The other room faced inward, but its thin walls carried a pump running through the night and every shower and toilet visit from the neighbors. I got only 3-4 hours of sleep over two nights. Better window seals might have kept out much of the street noise. The host was somewhat friendly, and her requests about keeping sand out and being careful with the handmade things were fair. I wish she'd also warned us about the noise so we could have got earplugs or tried something else. After we came back from our morning out in Chania at 2PM, the room still hadn't been cleaned. We asked for an hour to rest, but staff knocked to clean after just 25 minutes, even though I'd only slept 1.5h the previous night. With cars, bikes, people shouting at 5am and furniture and equipment being moved around, it's a tough place to sleep.

A nice roof terrace and a lovely little hotel right by the edge of the old city. Our room was large and had a good sea view. There's also a little swimming spot just outside the gate, where Greek older folks go in from some steps.
