San Salvatore Monastery

Irene, the hostess, went above and beyond with helpful suggestions and made a real effort to help us celebrate our honeymoon. San Salvatore itself is a wonderful base in Chania, with a spacious, beautiful room overlooking the port. The shops and restaurants are an easy walk away, but the room still feels peaceful. The monastery has plenty of historic charm, and information signs around the property help you learn about it. I can’t recommend staying here enough.

The patio became our favorite spot. We spent time there journaling, painting, and napping while watching the harbour, lighthouse, waterfront shop lights, and sailboats come and go. Breakfast arrived there each morning at the exact time we asked for. The apartment was just as comfortable and lovely, and the beach and old town shops were only steps away. San Salvatore Monastery gave us a special experience my sister and I will be talking about for years. The location, comfort, service, breakfast, and especially the atmosphere all made it memorable.

Our ground-floor two-bedroom apartment had a covered outdoor seating area, so my friend and I chose to have breakfast there, with a lovely view of the garden and cloisters. Breakfast was delicious, and you could choose to eat on site or at a local bistro or restaurant. The bathroom had Apitiva products, a natural products brand from Greece, which was a treat. The historic property is peaceful and well maintained, with thick walls that offered welcome relief from the heat and crowds. It’s still very accessible and beautifully located. Irene was a wonderful host, warm and friendly while giving us space, with a personal touch.

The quiet inside the enclosure was a welcome break after the busy street, and sitting on the balcony at night gave us the kind of pause a vacation needs. We were glad to have this special experience. Our suite brought ancient details together with modern design in a striking way. The views were beautiful, the beds were excellent, and the location made it easy to walk anywhere in the old town. The AC worked very well. Our host was accommodating and gave us just the right amount of attention, making sure we had what we needed. There was also a website we could use to make requests.
