Poseidon Apartments

The apartments were cleaned almost every day, and the location was ideal, close to a great beach. Everything was perfect, and the pool was great.

The location is handy for beaches, shops, and restaurants, and the cleaning was very good. Anna was fantastic, always friendly, and the owner even helped me with my watch, which is a long story. The pool itself was great, but the bar was open only about twice in our two weeks. The photos and description made the facilities seem a little misleading, since food and drinks weren’t really available on site. Maybe it used to be better, and the BBQ seemed to be used for storing cleaning tools. It could have been a nice place to meet other guests, but it was usually dead and had no atmosphere. I wasn’t looking for a party, but even a little quiet background music would have helped. If the bar is never open, the signs saying not to bring food or drink to the pool should be removed. I mentioned this to the owner, who said water was fine. The kitchen needs some updating. The very old stove had two hot plates, but we could really use only one at a time. We like to cook and always choose self-catering, so having almost no worktop space made it difficult. Food storage was also a problem: the fridge didn’t work very well, and the freezer was so iced up that its door wouldn’t close. We had just one sharp knife. Guests shouldn’t have to chase the owner for missing items, since surely someone checks that everything is there before arrival. Our flight was delayed, so we arrived late. A bottle of water in the room would have been a nice touch after 12 hours of travel. We had to drop our bags and rush out to buy water and other things. It’s the little details. We left a bottle of water in the fridge when we departed, and I hope the next guests got it.

We found it easy to walk along the coast towards Hania, and there’s also a useful shortcut to Agioi Apostoli. The area isn’t crowded, yet beaches, restaurants, and shops are within walking distance. A bus stop and car rental are beside the nearby minimarket. Our Booking dot com room had an excellent spot in the complex, with a roomy terrace by the pool that stayed shaded in the morning, great for long breakfasts. The owners were lovely and flexible. My only small gripe was the rather uncomfortable sofa bed and the kitchen amenities.

We’re a group of women in our 60s and have stayed at Poseidon Apartments, in A2, B1, B3, and B4, two years in a row. The rooms are spotless and thoughtfully laid out. Towels are supplied every two days or on request, and Anna, the lovely room attendant, checks and cleans them five days out of seven. The pool area is beautiful, well maintained, and has great-quality water. Christos, the owner and manager, is friendly and helpful, and tries to meet every request. The location has lovely views, with a short, level walk through the olive groves to four equally beautiful local beaches, shops, and restaurants. We’d very happily return to Poseidon Apartments next time we’re in Agii Apostoli in Crete.
