The fourth-floor room was much nicer, with a balcony facing the mountain and sliding glass doors, but it had no thermostat control or TV remote. We were only there for one night with a tour group of 35, so we made do with extra blankets. At first we were put on the fifth floor. The room was very warm despite the cool weather, the thermostat didn't seem to help, there was a wood-smoke smell, and the air ran all night with no room control. Opening the shutters revealed a tile roof, and with no screens and shutters that wouldn't latch, birds could fly in. There was also a leak under the toilet and no TV channels. The pillows were hard and flat. The fourth floor, by contrast, was cold, though space heaters were available. When we spoke to the front desk, they moved us within a minute. The smoke smell came from the lobby fireplace. We seemed to be the only guests, so perhaps the hotel had opened just for our group. The old hotel has five floors, a beautiful, inviting lobby with a big fireplace and bar, and an old-school lift with a wooden door you open when it reaches your floor. It only fits two or three people. The fifth-floor rooms have nice old hardwood floors. Kudos to our bus driver for getting up the steep, narrow road.

The staff were among the friendliest and most accommodating people I met in Greece, and the food was fresh and carefully prepared. Our room was clean, too. This old-world hotel suits Delphi's atmosphere, though the building is clearly old and facilities across Greece may differ from what many Western visitors expect. A small leak and a mattress firmer than I like were easy for me to overlook with the beautiful views and gracious service. I can't wait to return.

Our college group stayed here on the final night of a five-day trip, after two nights in Athens and a night in Olympia. I think the reviews are too harsh. Dinner here was easily the best of the three places: we got to choose what we wanted, and the chicken breasts, potatoes or mash, thick rice, veggie options, and desserts were all really good. Rooms are dated and some showers are very small, which could be tough for a tall or broad person. Mine had a bath-shower, which was nice, and I shared with two other boys without feeling cramped. Our balcony looked up the mountain, away from the busy parties lower down. Breakfast was okay, not amazing, but there was something to eat. The main letdown was lunch for the journey. As at the other hotels, each student and teacher got a lunch, but this hotel wouldn't make vegetarian options. They only provided ham and cheese subs, even though several of us were lactose intolerant, vegetarian, or had other dietary needs, so many were wasted. If you're arriving in a big group, make sure the coach driver knows where the hotel is. Ours drove to the top and back down, costing about 40 minutes, then we had to carry suitcases weighing around 15 kg up several flights of stairs. That's not the hotel's fault, but good to know. I can't say how good Delphi is as a city. I'd only recommend coming here if you want somewhere away from busy places like Athens or you're very interested in the Sanctuary of Apollo.

Dinner and breakfast were both very good, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and orderly, though a little old-fashioned and in need of renovation. It's in a beautiful spot overlooking the valley below Delfi, and works well as cheap, convenient accommodation near the splendid Archeological site at Delfi. I'd recommend it.

Panos, the owner, and his daughter Lydia were wonderful examples of Greek hospitality. They showed us their art gallery, and now two paintings by Stavos have a place in our home. We enjoyed our stay at the King Iniohos Hotel, where we had a large room with a fireplace. We hope to come back next year and take Greek cooking lessons from Lydia.
