Ancient Gortyna Home -Mitropolis, Heraklion

We loved the Greek salad, easily the best we’d had during the past week. We’d gone to lunch at this charming restaurant beside an archaeological site, and the owner’s warmth made the visit special. We were short on cash, but she generously told us to order and settle the bill later. She also treated us to a delicious dessert and homemade Rose Raki. We left with lovely memories. Thank you!

My wife and I stopped in for a quiet late lunch, early dinner, and were greeted by a lovely woman who served us delicious food. The bifteki with fried potatoes was honestly the best I’ve ever had, and I’ve eaten plenty over the years. If you’re anywhere on Crete, even on the other side of the island, make the drive. It’s worth it. We’d eat here again if we return. As we say in Mississippi after a good meal, “I’m full, fat, and happy.” Thank you very much!

So glad we found this little tavern. The tzatziki and eggplant with minced meat were amazing, a bit like moussaka but not quite the same. The host made a wonderful cake and rose-petal liqueur herself, and she was so kind. Highly recommend :)

Such a small, lovely place, with really good food. The vegetables are all homegrown, and the father makes the white wine and Raki at home. The owner uses it to make her own Rose Raki. I love this place ❤️
