Studio Eleni - Oasis holiday houses

We left straight away rather than spend two days somewhere we felt wasn’t worth it. Later we found a fantastic place in Rodakino for the same price, so I’d keep driving. We’d chosen this accommodation through Booking.com partly because of its positive reviews, but the photos didn’t match what we found on arrival. They seemed cleverly staged and, to me, digitally altered. The place smelled strongly of chlorine and moths, and the wooden huts had very poor insulation. They’d spent money on the driveway and garden that, in my view, should have gone into the huts. The beach looked okay, but the nearby tavernas served mainstream tourist food like sandwiches and pizza, with no sign of traditional Cretan cooking. My partner and I have visited Crete many times, and I’m sure you can find better accommodation for the same price. You can’t always get lucky, but I wanted to warn others about our experience. The owner wouldn’t agree to a free cancellation and didn’t reply either. It seemed to us they knew the accommodation wasn’t the best, but with such a disastrous location were desperate for every penny. Leaving was the right decision.
