The location suited us well for a quiet week. Kathara beach bar is just a five-minute walk, the water there is really clear, and there are a few simple restaurants nearby. A rental car made it easy to see Butterfly Valley, Anthony Quinn Bay and Rhodos old town. The surrounding area itself isn’t especially pretty, but that wasn’t why we came. I think this is the best place around for relaxing. We went at the end of September and start of October. The hotel was still full, yet the main pool area felt calm and had plenty of comfortable sunbeds. Staff came by in the afternoon with facemist, a lovely touch. Everyone was friendly and clearly worked hard. We also liked seeing the house cat and peacocks wandering around. Breakfast was something to look forward to, and Terra Med and Pleoni lunchbar both served tasty food. Smoking was allowed in the breakfast, lunch and dinner areas, though, which wasn’t pleasant while eating. Our room was in the renovated older section. It was fine, though it didn’t have the luxurious feel of the newer side’s swim-up rooms, which also cost a bit more. We hadn’t realized that guests staying in the older section couldn’t use the pool on the new side. We had a hot tub, but at first it felt like an ice bath until it was fixed. The room was noisy at night because we could hear the tub motor from the balcony. Maintenance could have been better too: a broken table, a shower drain that didn’t work properly and stained outdoor cushions. I also missed having a fitness area. The hotel has a lovely boho style, though, and we had a pleasant week there.

The relaxed atmosphere and considerate guests made it easy to unwind, and we never had to compete for a poolside place. There were lots of food and drink options at the pool bar, and the restaurants served lovely meals. The hotel itself was beautiful, with kind and attentive staff. Plenty of places are walkable, while others, including Anthony Quinn Bay, are a cheap taxi ride away. Free parking was handy. Pool towels require a €20 cash deposit. We had the best time and will definitely come back.

The infinity pool and ocean view from the villa were my highlights. We were there with friends to celebrate one guest’s milestone birthday, and the beautiful house worked perfectly for it. Staff were lovely, and one night security even drove me from reception to the villa so I wouldn’t have to walk alone. Breakfast was fresh and delicious. The hotel pools were also lovely, and we spent a couple of days there even though our villa had its own pool. Dinner at the restaurant is well worth it. I liked the adults-only feel throughout the property too.

The Kouros Hotel is among the better places in the area, with a nicely decorated reception and entrance. It’s about a five-minute walk to the beach. For restaurants beyond the hotel’s own, a car or taxi is useful: there are some about ten minutes away on foot, and the better ones are around fifteen minutes away. The design looks good, but some choices aren’t very practical. The private pools are visible to anyone because the garden entrances are open, so they don’t feel private and are not very useful. In the shower, the hand-held nozzle only adjusts to one fairly high position, which isn’t helpful for shorter people who want to keep their hair dry. Rooms are well decorated and have a large TV, fridge, coffee maker and an electronic safe big enough for a regular laptop and important papers such as passports. There’s no streaming on the TV, something that feels like it should be standard these days. WiFi is open, free and reasonably fast. The locks are old-fashioned, using ordinary keys instead of key cards, and I’d recommend replacing them soon.
