Lido Star Beach Hotel

The sea view was amazing, and the room cleaning service deserves five stars. Beyond that, the room was small and uncomfortable, the WiFi was very weak or unavailable, and the tables at breakfast were always dirty, though the breakfast itself wasn’t too bad. Check the times carefully: the booking confirmation said check-in at 15:00 and check-out at 12:00, but at the hotel they showed 14:00 and 11:00. Even after booking and paying ahead, there’s no guarantee you’ll get the room you reserved on arrival. We were put in a cheaper room for the first night, and this apparently happens repeatedly. There was no apology or compensation. It was the worst hotel experience I’ve had, with terrible management. Local authorities should pay attention, and I’ll inform them. My first impression of Rhodes was awful, and it ruined two days of our holiday. The rooms are nowhere near luxurious.

The room was spacious, modern and elegant, and there’s a restaurant inside the hotel. It’s a really cool place, close to the beach and with a club nearby. I spent five days in Greece on holiday and enjoyed it.

The cocktails are worth trying, with a tasty selection, and Friday’s Greek night was great fun. We also loved the cat in the restaurant. The dining area has a lovely open design right by the beach. The hotel was fine for us and its location suited our needs, though it’s a little outside Faliraki and might feel far for anyone wanting to be near the centre. It’s close to the harbour, a great shop and the sea. The top-floor view was beautiful from the terrace and worth the extra cost, even though one window panel was obscured by salt mist. The breakfast was disappointing but enough to keep us from going hungry, so I wouldn’t pay for half board. There are plenty of good restaurants nearby. The hotel is being renovated, but the reception, rooms and bathrooms still need work. There was little room to unpack, nowhere to dry clothes except the balcony furniture, and no shower-gel shelf. The shower head was broken and sprayed water everywhere, while the hot water kept coming and going. The bathroom is enclosed in frosted glass, which is an interesting design. We both have back pain, but the slightly firm mattress was comfortable. The staff were quite neutral, apart from the cleaners, who were lovely, smiling, greeting us and doing a good job. At checkout, nobody asked how we’d found the hotel.

We booked a beachfront hotel for October 25 through Loveholidays months ahead, but when we arrived it was closed. It looked as if it had been shut for a while, and nobody had told us. They first offered us Stamos Plus hotel, where there was a sewage smell around reception and the whole place seemed run down. Eventually we were moved to Aloe hotel, which was much better in every respect. Still, we never got the beachside hotel we’d booked.
