Calypso Beach

The animation team had incredible energy, and the food was both delicious and varied. I’ve never experienced staff this friendly or helpful at a hotel. The beach was magnificent too, and everything about the stay felt perfect. I’d especially recommend it to families and newlyweds. It deserves more than five stars, and I hope we can return soon with a bigger group.

The hotel’s design and upkeep made a great first impression. The lounges and facilities were beautiful, and I felt comfortable from the start. Staff were attentive, kind, and genuinely helpful. Lunch and dinner were fresh, delicious, and featured different dishes daily, while the bars were well organized and made tasty cocktails. Breakfast was good, but the choices were nearly the same each day. There was plenty to enjoy during the day, with varied activities. Evenings were mostly dance shows, so a broader mix would have been nice. The team took Fridays off, understandably, but some poolside music would have helped the night feel less quiet if you weren’t going out to Faliraki. The beach crêpes tasted good, though there was only one person making them and the wait could reach 10-15 minutes. Two staff could probably keep things moving better. Getting a taxi through the hotel, especially on Fridays, was inconvenient because it had to be booked at least an hour ahead. I’d book weekend taxis directly. The Wi-Fi was weak and unstable in several areas, and could be much better for a four-star resort.

We were back at calypso beach from July 30th-August 10th, and we’ll return next year after three years of visits. It’s clean, tidy, and well cared for. The maids take pride in their work, and the staff are brilliant. It’s nice to see many familiar faces from our last holiday. Nico, Geroge and others have been there every time, always going above and beyond. We’re made to feel at home. The beach is awesome and the calypso staff keep their section in great shape with real care and politeness. The pool is a decent size, as you can see in the attached photos. Food is very good overall, but the menu leans German and Austrian. I’d like more variety, especially for children, and some better English options. Evening snacks could use a bit more choice too. It’s mostly peanuts and crisps, which the kids demolished before anyone else got a look in! Ha! The gym is really small and needs newer machines. It also needs air conditioning because it was unbearable at times. Entertainment was the biggest downside for us. The new team didn’t really engage with anyone who wasn’t German, and it was the same at the kids club. The movie nights on the main stage were in German, which made it hard for all the kids to join in. Maybe they could rethink that. We love the calypso hotel and its people. It’s a lovely place with everything you could want.

We stayed for a full week and had a very nice time. The team were kind and helpful, the meals and drinks were delicious, and there was a different selection of food every day. The cleaning staff were barely noticeable but did a very thorough job. I’d recommend this place and Rhodes as a whole.
