Phaidon Hotel & Spa

For the price, the room and location were pretty good, and breakfast was decent for a three-star hotel. The staff experience varied a lot: some were really friendly, while others came across as rude.

I can’t recommend this hotel. We stayed during the summer, and neither the pool nor the spa was open. Management told us they hadn’t opened it that year. Other reviews make it look as though the pool has been left closed for several years. The spa was shut too. The air conditioning was switched off overnight during the Greek heat. Around 3 a.m. our room got above 28C and felt stifling. There was no screen on the patio door, so opening it meant risking bats or bugs getting inside. We went down to complain and found the front desk person asleep on the couch. It took nearly ten minutes to wake him. He said they turn off the AC because it’s “...Florina...”. We had the room card in the controller, but that wasn’t enough, so we made sure he went over and flipped the separate switch at the desk. I took a screenshot of the temperature sensor on my phone. The carpet seemed like it hadn’t been cleaned in years. Walking barefoot left our feet black, and there was a mark on the floor where an iron had melted something. They charge a resort fee, although this isn’t a resort or a spa, which feels close to false advertising or fraud. We checked out a day early. The front desk said there’d be no problem waiving the final night, since we’d booked through Expedia, but when Expedia called to confirm, the hotel wouldn’t speak with them. Management came across as smug and condescending.

Parking was easy since it’s away from the main beaten track. The room was comfortable and fairly priced, the staff pleasant, and breakfast was great. The spa wasn’t available, which was a disappointment.

The staff were friendly and helpful, but the stay was very poor. The room had too many problems, and there was no spa or pool. I generally wouldn’t recommend it.
