Botsis Guest House

The little balcony was a lovely bonus, with a view over a small street where locals and donkeys pass by, especially in the morning. Our room was spotless and sweet, with a fridge, kettle, cups, toiletries and shampoo. The guesthouse is right in the center, close to the port, restaurants and supermarket, and the prices were very reasonable. Staff were friendly, and pets are welcome by request. A great Hydra stay.

The owner was very helpful and shared ideas for things to do around the island. Rooms are simple, nicely designed and clean, though not spotless. There’s WiFi and A/C, plus a lobby with a couple of computers, beach towels, and a bathroom you can use after checkout. The prices were really good, and I’d choose the place again if I came back to the island.

I don't really get why the reviews are so glowing. This place is okay to stay in, but I wouldn't call it great, and it doesn't deserve five or even four stars. The staff were friendly enough, but things were handled poorly. We reserved twin beds and got a double. They said there'd be water in the fridge, but there wasn't, and the iron they promised only showed up the next day. It’s close to the port, though Hydra is so small that most places are. Our view wasn't anything special. The rooms looked clean, but the bedspread had oil marks and there were hairs on it, on the sheets and on the floor. The fridge, A/C and furniture all looked old and yellowed. The bathroom door faced the bed and was so thin you could hear everything. We peeked into the shared kitchen once and didn't go back. The surfaces looked dirty, the cooker hood was greasy, and there was smelly fish in the sink. It was cheap, but still didn't feel worth the money. I wouldn't recommend it or book again.

The owner even opened the guesthouse for us in March, before the season started, and was a big help. It's a lovely little bargain, a short walk from the harbour. The rooms are basic but comfortable, clean and charming, with balconies for enjoying the Hydra sun.
