The room had everything we needed, including a balcony with a wonderful ocean view where we spent evenings reading or just sitting outside. There was also a spot beside the balcony to hang clothes to dry. We got everything we wanted for the price, and I’d definitely recommend this place. The owner was especially kind and kept checking that we had what we needed. He even offered to drive us to a nearby village for groceries, but we politely declined because we wanted to enjoy the hike. We arrived quite late, but the owner was waiting on the porch, welcomed us warmly and showed us the room and how everything worked. He later knocked to apologize for forgetting the Wi-Fi code, then brought us a large bottle of water because he thought we might be thirsty. A lovely arrival and a great stay. If we return to Syros, we’ll come back. Two people can take the bus from the apartment to the main port for €3.20 using the app, or a taxi costs €12.

I come back every year. Monousos rooms are fantastic, family-owned and in the small town of Galissas, close to two of Syros’s best beaches. There’s a bar below with sea views, and you can call for pricing. Across the street are a rental car agency, an ATM, restaurants and a market. Visit ancient Galissas while you’re there. Syros is one of my favourite Greek islands, with a stunning large port city and Ano Syros, the old town, on the other side of the island. It’s the capital of the Cyclades.

Clean, quiet and cozy, with a TV and air conditioning. The rate was a good 24 euros a night without breakfast, and the hotel faces Galissas Beach. The owner also runs the café downstairs. If you have a ferry or flight to catch, check the bus timetable carefully, since buses only start at 09:30 in the morning. A taxi to the port costs at least 15 euros, so staying downtown may be better if you need to get there early.

We stayed in March, during the off season, and it was very good value for money. The host was friendly, the spot next to the beach was quiet, and our room had a sea view. A wonderful stay.
