We were most bothered by the neighbor’s dog. It was chained up and barked at every movement, day and late into the night, so this isn’t a spot for a peaceful break. You really need a car to get there, since the walk from the main road along the smaller road feels spooky. The apartment itself was clean and pleasant, with air conditioning, a mini fridge, and parking at the building. But sheets and towels were changed just once during our 7 days, and we needed more towels with nowhere to wash or dry them. There was no shampoo or shower gel, some bathroom fittings were broken, and the outdoor pool and worn sunbeds didn’t seem well cared for. The pool view in the photo was “amazing,” and the yard faced the neighbors.

Rooms, pool, and sunbeds were clean, and there’s secure parking if you rent a car. The place is cozy and quiet despite being close to the Chania-Kissamoss bus station, with no street noise or party noise from Platanias. The bus stop is about a 5-minute walk, Lidl and another supermarket are around 10 minutes away, and good restaurants, pools, and the open sea are 10-15 minutes on foot. Platanias is about 25-30 minutes away if you’re after a night out. A perfect little base near Chania.

Be very careful. I left on Friday and forgot a bag of shoes in the room. When I called on Sunday to ask if it had been kept, they told me to check the trash. I called again Monday, and they couldn’t find it. Had they actually looked in the trash? Then came an excuse that it had been taken to church. No call to tell me I’d left anything behind, and the whole thing felt unprofessional, dishonest, and mocking. Who knows who’s wearing those shoes now. I wouldn’t go there again.

Mr. Philippos was a lovely host, and we had a great stay. Everything we needed for the kitchen was there, and our renovated room was spotlessly clean. The pool and peaceful setting made it a nice place to stay, and the value for money was excellent. We’d happily choose him again and highly recommend it.

The property was new, clean, and in a great location for the price. I just wish I’d actually met the host. We could have used some local advice, like restaurant suggestions, things to see, or whether the highway speed cameras really work. There wasn’t even anyone checking us out. We left the keys by the door and headed off.
