Glyfada Gorgona Apartments

The kitchenette had old, tired plates and pots, and everything in the apartment felt very basic. The walls were really thin, too. The place feels like old-fashioned 1970s accommodation and is badly in need of an upgrade. I was disappointed. There wasn’t even a microwave. I wouldn’t really call it an apartment, more a room with a kitchenette and balcony.

The location worked well for us, especially being close to the beach. The place was reasonably clean, the cleaning staff were friendly, and there was AC and WiFi, though the connection wasn’t very strong. There’s a spot to clean your feet after the beach, and although there’s a club nearby, we couldn’t hear its music. Noise was the big problem. The walls are paper thin, so at night we could hear everything around the building, especially its AC units, as well as sounds from neighboring rooms. It was hard to sleep. The apartment was short on useful things, with no pan or microwave and not enough cutlery. The restaurant downstairs looked unappealing, as if frozen food was being reheated, so we stayed away. And the septic tank was pumped out right by the balcony every day at 9am and 8pm, which made breakfast and dinner smell awful.

The apartment is right on the beach, and my room was spacious with a lovely sea view from the balcony. The staff were also very nice. I’d come back if I get the chance. The awkward bit was the lack of power outlets. There were just two, one in the bathroom and one across the kitchen area, so using the kettle and charging my phone was tricky.

The accommodation was really good, and the beach is only about five minutes away. Shopping was less convenient, though. There aren’t many stores nearby and prices seemed a bit high, so I used to take the bus into Corfu main city to shop at lidl. The local restaurants also had limited variety, with very little seafood.
