Saint Nicholas Hotel

The pool and its grounds were my favourite place to relax: there’s lots of planting, a big grassy area and olive trees all around, perfect for enjoying the Corfu sunshine. The hotel itself is peaceful, and the staff made us feel very welcome with their friendly, helpful and personal service. Getting to Gouvia beach meant walking down a steep hill, but it was manageable at our own pace, even with my asthma and my husband's back pain. Gouvia is a lovely small resort, and taxis are another option. The local buses were great for getting to Corfu town. We had a really relaxing holiday, and I don't understand the negative posts. Maybe it comes down to expectations.

The rooms were roomy and clean, with lovely big balconies, but very basic. Our shower kept flooding, and there was sometimes a smell of stagnant water. I would still come back for another week. The hotel's beautiful, with a small but well-maintained pool and lovely surrounding areas. There were plenty of sunbeds, so no need to get up early to claim one. Staff were incredibly helpful and polite. The restaurant had a fair choice, with good quality food at reasonable prices. Beer and wine in chilled glasses were a nice bonus.

The green, spacious outdoor area is the real selling point, and the staff were lovely. The location is good, though the walk up from Gouvia centre is quite steep, so it may not suit anyone who has trouble walking. The rooms are large but nothing special. They were cleaned each day, though they could have been cleaner, especially the bathroom. Breakfast was alright, and dinner was good.

A lovely little family-run hotel, with exceptionally friendly and helpful staff. It’s well placed for getting out and about, though there is a small hill to walk up. A taxi, hire car or scooter could be useful if you’d rather avoid it.
