Atrion Hotel

We slept well because the room was quiet. It had a king size bed that was a little soft, and the pillows flattened down to almost nothing, though there were two extra pillows in the closet. I liked having a luggage rack, and there was also a hairdryer and a large safe big enough for several laptops. Our room was 505, with a huge balcony. You could see the water to the right, and the city and street on the other sides. The room could use some modernization, though I can’t quite say what felt wrong. Maybe it was the rust and brown colours; everything seemed new enough otherwise. The red carpet in the hallways could go too. The lobby and breakfast areas looked very modern. The breakfast was an amazing buffet with a huge selection of everything. The hotel is in a fantastic spot between the fortress and lion Square.

This older hotel feels like it hasn’t been updated in a while, and compared with the much better stays we had elsewhere on Crete, it fell short. There were three of us, as stated on the booking, but we only received enough towels for two. The beds weren’t comfortable, and each person had just one pillow. I wouldn’t stay here again.

The staff were very nice and helpful, and the daily food packages were good value and tasty every day. It’s easy to walk around heraklion from here, and the location is also handy for buses and tours.

On my second 3-week stay here with a group of students from the United States, I’m convinced Atrion deserves a review. I rarely write one before everything is said and done, but I can’t recommend this place enough for how much attention it gives to visitor satisfaction. When service quality is declining in a touristy place like Crete, and Greece in general, because demand is high and supply is low, the Atrion owners, who run it as a family business, are going above and beyond to recruit the best people in the field. You can tell the staff are genuinely very satisfied with their workplace, and that makes a huge difference to customer satisfaction. Athena, the latest addition at the restaurant compared with last year, takes that level of attention even further. She’s a pleasure to interact with, always funny and in a good mood, and makes sure everyone is super content when visiting her kingdom! Beyond the usual things you expect from a great hotel, like value, location, rooms, food, and amenities, it’s the people here who make all the difference. If you stay here, you’ll wish there were an Atrion in every city you visit in the future. I included the photos to show this review is authentic.
